From September 18th 2006 it will be illegal for any child under 12 years or under 135cm tall to travel without an appropriate car seat. TUBS do not sell car seats because we believe that when buying a car seat it is important to take along the car it will be used with and check whether the seat can be installed properly in the vehicle. No child car seat fits every car and it is important that it is fitted as securely as possible. TUBS advise that you visit a car seat retailer and speak to a salesperson who should be able to explain how the seat should be installed and used and may even demonstrate using your own car.
Cots:
When setting up the cot: Don’t put it close to heaters, windows or power points. Don’t hang anything nearby where there is a danger of the item falling into the cot. Keep the cot uncluttered.
Before your baby can sit up:Remove all mobiles as babies can become entangled within these items. Put the cot down to the lowest position.
Mattresses
The Society for the Prevention of Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDS) and all other health care professionals recommend that a new mattress is used for every new baby, even if the old mattress has only been used for a sibling. It is important that mattresses are top quality and conform to the latest British Standards.
